FAQ: Why is homemade elderberry syrup not as thick as store-bought?
This is a very common question…the difference is that most homemade syrups contain all natural ingredients. I use all organic ingredients, I don’t add any additional sugars don’t or thickeners. Whenever elderberry syrup is made this way it is more like a juice because those additives are not included. One way it is made thicker naturally is by adding more honey than elderberries, which I don’t do because elderberries should make up the bulk of the product.
